Sara Walker awarded British Empire Medal

London Hockey congratulates Sara Walker on being awarded BEM in the New Year’s honours list for services to hockey. She currently Chairs both London Masters and the national Area Masters Committee.

Sara has had a long and successful hockey career, on and off the pitch.

She has won multiple domestic, european and world championships: from national titles with Ealing HC in in the 1980s, to becoming a World Cup winner with England Masters.

She worked at England Hockey evolving the Junior Talent Programme, and has been the leading figure in the development of women’s Masters hockey in the south of England.

Sara plays and umpires at Teddington HC, where she has been a club stalwart since the 1990s.

Her passion and determination mean that she is always working in different roles simultaneously, pushing forward the growth and success of masters hockey and the sport generally. Long may that continue.

Sara said: “It gives me great pleasure to help provide as many match and tournament opportunities for as many players as possible across the country, in our great sport. I’m honoured to receive a British Empire Medal. It’s great for the sport and I appreciate that I am just one of many volunteers up and down the country making hockey ‘tick’”.
