Schools Competitions

Whilst the recent England Hockey governance restructure has mainly involved hockey clubs, schools activity has also been affected. The introduction of 8 new Areas means that from September 2021 schools within the Greater London boroughs, including areas previously falling within Surrey, Middlesex, Kent, Essex and Hertfordshire, will become part of the new London Area.

A London Hockey Schools Sub Committee has been set up to lead on the schools competitions within the London Area. Sub-Areas will be created to facilitate progress to the Area and National finals.

The National Schools’ competitions are organised across the Under 18, 16, 14, 13 and 11 age groups.

England Hockey is responsible for organising the Under 18 (Tier 1, 2 & 3) and Under 16 (Tier 1 & 2) competitions. Entry details and further information can be found on the England Hockey Schools Championships page

London Hockey will be responsible for organising and running the following Schools Competitions:

Outdoor Hockey

  • Under 18 Tier 4
  • Under 16 Tier 3 - intermediate & emerging schools 11-a-side
  • Under 16 Tier 4 - emerging schools 7-a-side
  • Under 15 (non EH competition) – a stand alone competition for those not involved in an EH competition
  • Under 14 Tier 1 - 11-a-side
  • Under 14 Tier 2 - 11-a-side
  • Under 14 Tier 3 - emerging schools 7-a-side

  • Under 13 Tier 1 - leading to National Finals
  • Under 13 Tier 2 - competition at Sub Area level
  • Under 12 Tier 2 - leading to Area Finals
  • Under 11 Tier 1 - leading to Area Finals

Indoor Hockey for boys and girls in both Under 18 and Under 16 age groups.

Links to the proposed competition dates and the Schools Competitions Regulations (outdoor & indoor) can be found on the right hand side of this page.

The London Hockey Schools Sub Committee is collating contact details for as many schools as would be interested in getting more information about hockey, including finding links to local clubs if required.

We wish to be as inclusive as possible and for this reason are keeping entry fees as low as possible (only £10 per competition entry in this inaugural year) and ask schools to support this by letting us use their facilities free of charge whenever possible.

Competition entries can be done online. Schools who have registered with us will be sent all the entry information. Further detailed information for each competition entered will be sent to schools after the closing deadline.
